  JESUS, MARY, JOSEPH
pray for us!

FROM THE DESK OF FR. ARENS

My friends,

After a short Advent, our Christmas celebrations were truly blessed occasions and reminded us again of the glory and wonder of the birth of the Savior. Thanks to all who helped make our liturgies beautiful and festive and shared their talents to help us all to pray and participate in the celebrations of Christmas Mass.

My 10 nieces and nephews really enjoyed staying in the rectories over Christmas. It was great to have everyone together again to celebrate Christmas. The last group of them departed on early Tuesday morning, and the rectories went back to peace and quiet.

Congratulations to Chad (Christopher) Griffith who was received into the Catholic Church, Confirmed, and received his First Holy Communion in Brewster on Christmas morning. What a beautiful day to receive Jesus as one's Savior. We continue to keep him in our prayers as he begins his journey of faith in the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.

This weekend, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. It’s very appropriate that we celebrate this feast immediately following Christmas. The truth that Jesus was part of a human family is very significant and this weekend we have a moment to ponder this great mystery.

New Year's Day is usually a Holy Day of Obligation honoring our Blessed Mother. This year, because it falls on a Monday, the obligation is dispensed, and so it is not a Holy Day of Obligation this year. For those who would like to attend Mass on this feast, I will offer a Mass Monday morning at 9:00 in Windom. After that, I will be taking a few days off for Christmas vacation. I'll be back for the weekend.

May the beauty of the Christmas season continue to fill us with joy and much gratitude for all the Savior has done for us.

In Christ, Fr. Arens

WHEN DISASTER STRIKES or emergencies arise, people often wonder what they can do to help. In a small, rural community people are our most valuable resource. Spontaneous volunteers mean well, but actually create additional chaos for emergency responders. Sign up today to be a MN Responds Volunteer with the Cottonwood-Jackson Counties MN Responds Unit. Volunteers can be deployed as needed/requested by local emergency responders/management. Contact Angela Naumann at Public Health for more information: 507.847.6918 or angela.naumann@dvhhs.org
