My friends,

With our celebration of All Saints Day and All Souls day last week, we have begun our month of remembering the harvest of souls. We continue to keep the souls of our loved ones in prayer and ask the Lord to grant them eternal rest.

I continue to be grateful for your prayers for my own health. On Tuesday of this week, I begin seeing a neurologist in Sioux Falls to see if the pain issues I continue to have in my foot are nerve related. Since the doctors have done all they can to repair the bones and tendons, they are now thinking that I have nerve damage from my first surgery in December of 2015. I am hopeful that they will eventually find a solution. Your prayers are always appreciated.

May the Lord continue to give us grace and strength as we give thanks for His gifts and are surrounded by His abundant goodness and love.

In Christ, Fr. Arens

We will be returning to Standard Time next weekend. Turn your clocks BACK 1 hour upon retiring on Saturday night, November 4th!

THIS IS THE TIME to pull together as the Body of Christ to support the Catholic Ministries Appeal. Each of us plays an important role as St. Paul names us the “ligaments of the body,” and we, through our support, bring about the Church’s growth by building it up in love. Sacred Heart-Heron Lake’s 2017 goal is $11,610 of which $8,287 has been donated by just 34 of our families. Please pick up a CMA envelope today from the tables in the church entrance and make your donation so that this remaining balance will not have to come from our general operating funds. Thank you to those who have already sent in their donation.
BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN: Please return all baby bottles with your donations by Sunday, November 5th, to the cradle in the entrance of the church or to Carmen in the office ASAP. Thanks to all who helped make this campaign successful!

The Fall 40 Days for Life Campaign ends November 5th. It is a time of Prayer, Fasting, and Outreach that is changing the hearts and minds of those who believe abortion is acceptable. By the grace of God, the movement has been blessed with proven results. Since 2007, 44 nations have taken part, 156 abortion workers have quit, and 86 abortion centers have closed. Best of all, 13,370 preborn babies have been spared abortion, included the 365 babies as of September 5th, with the current campaign! To learn more, see

In the American tradition, people have a right to bring their beliefs to bear on every social, economic and political problem facing their community. For Christians, that’s not just a privilege. It’s not just a right. It’s a demand of the Gospel. Believers can’t be silent in public life and be faithful to Jesus Christ at the same time. Actively witnessing to our convictions and advancing what we believe about key moral issues in public life are acts of truth telling. They’re vital to the health of every democracy. And again, they’re also a duty—not only of our religious faith, but also of our citizenship.

LET’S ALL GO TO THE MOVIES! The movie entitled “Same Kind of Different As Me” features an all-star cast and is a true story about a fight to make the homeless, and one homeless man, feel wanted, needed, and at home. This movie is excellent and worth seeing. Without giving away too much of the plot, this well-acted film is at times funny, at times sad to the point of tears, and leaves a profound message on its audience. It opened the weekend of October 20th. Invite a friend and go see it!
