FROM THE DESK OF FR. ARENS
This week we celebrate some very important things in regard to our Catholic Faith.
On Wednesday, we celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints Day. On this day we remember all the souls who have completed their eternal journey to heaven and behold the face of God. We remember these souls because they not only give us a great example to follow, but they also help us with their prayers. This is such an important part of our faith, that the Church designates this a Holy Day of Obligation. If we desire to go to heaven at the end of our lives, it’s important to get to know and celebrate the saints, and this feast provides us with this opportunity. Please see the Mass schedule for time and location of Masses in our cluster.
Thursday is a lesser day, but still very important. On this day we observe All Souls Day. This feast helps us to remember our very important duty to offer prayers for those who have died and recall what our Catholic Faith teaches about Purgatory. Purgatory is a place of purification and preparation for heaven. We can assist the souls in Purgatory with our prayers and sacrifices. Let’s remember to offer prayers for the deceased, especially our loved ones who have gone before us. On this day all priests have the privilege of offering three Masses. Mass will be offered in each parish; again, please check this bulletin for the Mass schedule.
On the days from November 1-8, we can gain a plenary indulgence for the souls of the faithful departed by visiting a cemetery and praying for the dead, and observing the usual conditions of going to confession within 20 days, receiving Holy Communion and praying for the Holy Father's intentions. Fulfilling the conditions of an indulgence for a deceased loved one is one of the greatest gifts we can give to them. A simple internet search for All Souls Day indulgence will bring up a lot of information in regard to this wonderful work of prayer and sacrifice.
November is a very important month for our faith. It is a time of harvest in regard to our faith. May we bring in all the good things that Jesus offers us through the Church, so that we may too someday rejoice with the saints in heaven.
In Christ, Fr. Arens

“We must listen to God, who speaks to us. Having a well-formed conscience doesn’t mean we have all the answers to the complex problems in the world, but it does mean that we are sensitive to the needs and struggles of other people.”

The movie entitled “Same Kind of Different As Me” features an all-star cast and is a true story about a fight to make the homeless, and one homeless man, feel wanted, needed, and at home. Without giving away too much of the plot, this well- acted film is at times funny, at times sad to the point of tears, and leaves a profound message on its audience. It opened the weekend of October 20th. Invite a friend and go see it!
